Pia receives shares in May 2025, the financial year ends 30 June 2025

Assuming Pia uses a tax agent and her tax lodgement history is good, her 2025 tax return won't be due until 15 May 2026 and the tax payable (if any) won't be due until 6 June 2026.

If Pia is selling for tax reasons it's more likely to be in relation to shares issued in the 2024 financial year, for which tax will be payable in 9 days time.

We can expect another one of these announcements in May 2026 lol.

Correct.

Which is why the usual 'selling for US tax reasons' doesn't apply in Pia's case.

Of course sale proceeds are classified as income, but the initial awarding of them is treated very differently in the USA and Australia.
