Africa is an absolutely huge continent. Presumably intentionally, the English drew maps that decreased the apparent size of Africa and increased the relative size European countries further from the equator. These maps are widely circulated and create the widespread view that Africa is smaller than it actually is.

The picture below fills up the space that is Africa with more well known country maps. This provides a better idea of the size of the area you are bundling into one category. While I 100% agree there are areas of Africa with way too much sovereign risk, there are also areas of Africa that are stable which is exactly what you would expect when considering an area that is substantially wider than Perth to Sydney. Africa is 54 different countries. This is not the same as observing USA has 50 states. Africa is not a single jurisdiction.
