The company was initially talking about production of 5mtpa tokyo. Even at an IO price of $90p/t, a 5mtpa operation could sustain a Market Cap of $600m+. It's really only been recently (6 months?) that the 'staged' production option of 300ktpa to 2mtpa to 5mtpa after a new port is built was mentioned by the company.
Exxaro also took over AKI, which was right next door, with a very similar deposit to EQX for $330m. AKI didn't have a Badondo deposit either.
Factor in the huge cash balance of the company and access to infrastructure, and these are probably the reasons for past bullishness.
Hoping for the Scoping Study to read tomorrow, this has been dragging on for a while now.
