I think you may be missing a basic understanding of taxation. It's the end of the financial year, if the director has some large losses on other investments then it makes perfect senses for him to sell some YOW shares, that have realised significant gains, so these can be off-set against those losses in this financial year. Selling his "bad" shares probably wouldn't have done much good because if they are "bad" the probably wouldn't have any appreciable capital gains to set off.
