As the article says there is no true 5g at the moment or in the future. This year they expect beamforming to be added to 4g network which has been referred to as 5g because of the speed uplift, however it is better described as 4g+. Current devices wil still work on it.
I wouldn't hold your breath for an update, the article is from october 18.
Spirit network is combination of private fibre and radio combined, already using beamforming to give the high speeds up to 1gbps. As nbn struggles with more uptake then spirit starts looking better. 5g no immediate threat imo
