At best a punt I think. Karl holds 23 mill shares at last count and has a drip purchase under way. He’s only buying small amounts which doesn’t really amount to anything. He really stuffed up the ARQ holding in a big way, both in terms of weighting, punting on a Yesterday’s stock, and analysis of the fundamentals of ARQ. I can say along with most investors with my hand on my heart, I wouldn’t have considered for a moment investing in ARQ, let alone it consisting of 18% of my portfolio. CSL definitely !
The WAM research department are fairly canny and make great assessments both macro and micro. Karl has proven he’s nowhere near them in that department. Geoff Wilson has now a fair number of LICs under management. I don’t know that he would be interested in gobbling up unsuccessful LICs like ALF and CDM, after all, by being successful himself with Wilson Asset, he is effectively profiting from their incompetence. As I have said numerous times, the gap between NTA and the SP will only close if the buying public regard the manager as effective and profitable.. the gap between the SP and the NTA of CDM is your answer. I am still looking for the 40 ft pole to measure how close I want to get t9 CDM again.... although I still hold and hope, but a buyer ? Nah. !
