Yeah I think you might be right + the news of the ban on Emerald grain exporting there. It's all seen as a sign that China will continue on the trade-war path. Personally, I don't think it'll extend into almonds, as the USA and Australia are the two big producers, and the USA already cannot export to China due to a retaliatory levy in place... If they were to ban, or put an extra levy on, almonds from Australia, they would directly affect the Chinese consumers and manufacturers as there is no other exporter that can fill the gap in that case. Everything we've seen so far has been to 'punish' Australia in ways that don't affect the Chinese market, just AU exports. Barely for example is now getting sourced mainly from France. It's a bit more expensive (40$ per tonne) but not much - in Almonds there isn't such a natural backup option available... But those are just my ideas - only time will tell of course.
