Just reading this thread so going back a bit.
The first in first out for cgt calcs is a common misconception. When you sell you nominate what parcel is being sold which is why it is important to keep good records!!
Obviously if a profit is made you would normally want to sell ones held longer than 12 months to claim 50% deduction. Of course you may have bought others which are at a loss and may suit particular circumstances to use that loss, whatever works tax wise.........
