I understand the ambiguity both gs and norah are talking about. If the government is willing to pour so much money into Qantas, our taxpayer money mind you, wouldn't there be a case that taxpayers or the government in this instance should own at least a portion of the business? At the moment, only the shareholders are benefiting from this and I don't see how that is fair as Australians are all paying to keep the giant kangaroo running.

Then the execs will point to the share price after performing a multitude of share buybacks and claim the business is as strong as ever, after cash injections from taxpayers. I'm not questioning the business must exist, I'm questioning whether the fact it's a publically traded company is really the right thing..
