Without knowing all of his personal assets, it's hard to gauge the extent of this sale.
However, people investing in stock market expect to have income+growth greater than property returns most years.
IMO, without knowing personal situation, seems a negative on stock.
Plenty of options to borrow against shares etc if he thought share growth would be greater than property.
