In answer to your question about HPA about Nickel Laterite production.
Mafic/Ultra Mafic rocks are the protolith for nickel laterites and contain a percentage of Aluminium by weight. Once oxidised these laterites can provide a potential Aluminum source for HPA refining. Because Aluminium is present as Al2O3 and already oxidised this makes it amenable to leaching via acid dissolution. Once dissolved the liquor containing aluminium hydroxide can be cleaned to form a High purity Alumina product in the same way that an HPA refinery would process Al-rich kaolin. This means the kaolin feedstock for an HPA refinery can be substituted for a Lateritic feedstock. Because the laterite is already being dissolved in acid for the leaching of Nickel it makes sense to assess the coincident economic viability of extracting and refining the Alumina at the same time. This is why NiCo Resources is exploring this potential incremental value addition processing on our orebody.
