A South African buying out a Canadian for USD6.7b. Most of our local executives could not be bothered to engage in company building such as this. They already get big money to play with big toys, why risk their cushy set-ups? Also the Northern Star Saracen tie-up about this time last year was supposed to unlock a wave of corporate activity but it did not really. Don't know what is happening in Perth but all the gold execs there seem to have gone on extended sleepy bye byes. Seriously, if they cannot get things happening with the gold price at historically high prices then the whole sector must be structurally unviable.
