Yep, seems like this was a fintech-sector issue and not just a SWF-specific issue in which management teams in these companies went on hiring bonanzas while extrapolating record signup/revenue numbers from an anomalous one-off peak as though they would ever be sustainable.
Much like a retailer basing their future sales forecasts + hiring policy on Boxing Day sales numbers or similar, which makes no sense.
As much as it sucks for people to lose jobs, you'd think they'd be able to cut back on some excess staffing fairly easily if they wanted to improve profitability numbers... CEO compensation also looks like a bit of a joke relative to performance.
