I agree that it is someone else playing games. Just doesn’t make sense.
IG is a smart man and gee I would have taken benefit if the gold price surge to let it run and then sell into a bit of strength. Rather than relentlessly selling. That said, the margin call theory does sound reasonable.
Added more today to my holding. Once again a sucker for punishment.
