if opinion on the company is favourable then it causes an increase. When it’s in the dog box with people waiting for better indication that turnaround mark 3 is working it has little effect. It is still positive from a holder’s point of view as it mops up shares from people who want to get out. It also reduces soi, which benefits holders if the turnaround works - eps rise etc.
it’s not a magic bullet though for an increase.
