The rain in Qld. has been remarkable with three cyclones so far this season, but most of it has gone far to the North and far South from Mackay. There is plenty of loading capacity at the DBMC terminal. Iv'e been watching carefully, and monitoring the rain at Blackwater nearby - measured half hourly. Not a lot.

There are more ships than usual waiting to load coal but the great majority seem to be waiting on the BHP controlled Hay Point loaders. I can see 7-12 waiting for DB loading. BHP is now not willing to spend any money on expansion or investment in Qld. due to the Qld Govt actions on coal royalties. Their loader equipment will not be expanded.

There was a substantial fall on the 17th Jan but this was minor compared to 2023. It has been very hot there with temperature at mid day commonly 100 degrees F on the old scale. Wet coal will dry out pretty well you'd think with that heat.

I had thought the same (re rainfall in the Bowen Basin this year, relative to last year) but my sources were clear that January production had been ‘weather-affected’ — which I interpreted, maybe wrongly, to refer to rainfall. On shipping, the comment was along the lines that: “While they’re back on track (production-wise) in February, the ships are not leaving fast enough to make up for the January weakness”. Perhaps there’s a management issue here?
