Mike Hayne's career before he became CEO was an exploration geologist - exploration manager with geophysics as his forte.
He understands that you put holes down, a few hit or get closer to mineralization. You study what you have and re-target. E.g. I can see where they have hit zinc rater than copper. You allow for the fact that Zn is more mobile (as solution in rock) than Cu & Pb and much more than Au & Ag.
That too is part of why he said he was happy to hit some elevated Au at Pinafore.
I've simolified but if I learned this from a mere Post Grad Dip in Geoscience (Mineral Exploration). How much more effective is his expertise as noted above.
