I can think of no reason to convert those options now instead of next year, for any reason other than some type of need for extra shares to vote with. It adds 3% more shares to the register.
There may be some tax benefits somewhere, but I have no idea about that as they are both holding these shares in companies.
Is it possible someone is lobbing a cheeky T/O bid??
