Perhaps FAR management realized all along that PE was a long shot (since they had no cash, so it was always a fake attempt the courts would see through).
Perhaps they didn't care...
They may have just wanted it as a "cheap option" on spivving up the stock to fund cap raises at inflated prices to sucker investors.
I think at a minimum, it was seen internally as an each way bet, and at worst, they played invesotrs
