I know exactly what it means. MacGregor got issued a huge quantity of options in his first year and the value of those options is amortised across each relevant year for MVP. If the options aren't in the money as at 2023 they are no less part of his salary, and if they haven't hit then that's on the CEO (mostly).
Perhaps we need to come back to the days when a CEO salary is only 2-3 times the average employee - setting their own salaries through dubious "consultants" doesn't seem to have delivered the results shareholders had hoped. In fact it would be an interesting exercise to measure share price performance vs rate of CEO salary growth. No doubt someone has done this already.
