Datt's appointment to the board is only part of the announcement. The main part is the the old board is gone (or soon to be).
Many people believe the company has been stagnant for some time. A change of board, lead by the largest shareholder, is an opportunity for genuine change.
If the largest shareholder(s) don't have faith in the board, then it's time for change, and that appears to be what is happening.
