That was the first thing that jumped out at me when I was wondering who and why. Pre empt the announcement by buying, or even pre empt the offer itself, then go into offer with enough shares already in the coffers to play with. Offer accepted - suppress the SP using these (not part of the new 15% parcel), voila. Offer rejected - sell up at smaller profit. Win win.
