Yes, you can do that, but if you knew petrol was likely to be available "any day now" and your car was already configured to use petrol, would you spend the money?
In addition, the decision to convert the plant to work on LPG, CNG, or some other gas may require several weeks to months lead time for the appropriate kit to arrive (even if it was as simple as changing a few jets and regulators).
You wouldn't do it knowing that gas could start flowing "any day now".
