My understanding is that accidents resulting in death require substantial changes to be made to work practices - even if a lower plea is done then at the coal face changes would had to have been implemented and sometimes that can lead to higher costs which is why I'm wandering if perhaps some of the issues faced by ABY were as a result of work practice changes ie perhaps the need for remote vehicles etc. which is why I'm wandering if those geotechnical issues are somehow involved? Maybe new bogger requirements had to be put in place for the mine to be allowed to re-open after the accident adding costs? maybe new signalling systems - infrared etc etc. from my reading it was an open stope was the issue and that shouldn't happen in this day and age which does have me wandering if cost cutting wasn't involved? The accidents I knew from this practice from 20 years ago was dump trucks dropping down them when backing in to unload unwanted material then going down the stope - who knows though I'm just speculating?

Anyway I guess we'll find out next week.
