The MRA cannot, just like that, tell you, "mate, here's your licence for a new 5 year term, even though you never applied for a new term" and even though your current term isn't finished. They have to follow the law as set out in the PNG Mining Act (1992). Nothing complicated about it.

Anyone doing mining business in PNG MUST understand the law as basics of business. And If TL doesn't understand that (or doesn't check with his lawyers before making statements) then he surely is not competent for the role as MD of NIU.
