yes - this is near Geraldton, about 400km south of Shark Bay. Yes, there was a feature on this operation on Landline which must have predated this article more than 2 years ago, and it was then very much in the start up stage. Like the one on the east coast at Pt Stephens, this one also relies heavily on state government backing and support. Whether this fishery works for YTK in the much warmer waters off the west coast though remains to be seen. The water is clean off the west coast of Australia, but it is fed by the Leeuwin Current bringing warm water down from the north. This fishery also suffered a disease outbreak which devastated their stock a couple of years ago. That article dates back to June 2016, and indicates that the harvest season would last only 4 or 5 months from June to October at the latest. That does not compare with our year round production cycle, nor with our ever increasing volume. I am not aware of any YTK farms, or any other aquafarms in Shark Bay. It would be almost impossible to get approval to establish any there since it is in the World Heritage Area.
