I have had the privilege of working with John on this concept for the past 18 months. This video (the first in a series we are producing) is very close to the initial pitch that John gave me to join what is nowFuture Element.
At the time, I was with Boston Consulting Group and thinking deeply about closure and the dissonance between how miners and non-miner stakeholders (eg. Communities & TOs) see the industry’s commitment to the environment.
This video introduces the concept of ‘Economic Rehabilitation’ which was pioneered at New Century Resources and challenges the industry to think about a future that says no more tailings dams (I expect that in 15 years, new mines won’t be able to build these structures anyway).
