If you have to take a profit (options) and have to pay tax on it, dont you think its best to not part with the tax component within a matter of weeks instead of having to wait 12 months to have to deal with it. Simple, by waiting you defer. If you dont then you have to pony up the tax when you put in your 1015/16 return.
There are a lot of variables based on a case by case basis and also assumption no losses to offset.
