Team members:- Finalist, Singapore International Foundation ASEAN Student Fellowship 2003Starting February 2003
The SIF-Asean Student Fellowship ran from 1992 through 2004 as a programme to introduce student leaders from Asean to the Singapore way of life. Through living and learning together, the programme fostered close ties and friendships between student leaders from all over Asean.
Each year some 40 students were invited to spend a semester in Singapore Universities, during which time they were looked after by Singaporean student hosts and host families. Hosts were outstanding students selected from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Singapore Management University (SMU).
Apart from spending time living alongside students in school, Fellows enjoyed activities organised by us introducing them to Singapore life. Through these Fellowships, young people in Singapore and from Asean were given an opportunity to understand each others’ cultures and to develop friendships across borders.
Upon completion of the programme, Fellows automatically become members of the Fellowship alumni. The pioneer batch of Fellows from 1993 has representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand and the Fellowship now boasts members from all 10 Asean nations. Members of the alumni keep in contact via email, online forums, chatrooms and personal visits when they travel to the various Asean countries.

I had the opportunity to work in the preparation of bills in which I handled the part of carrying out economic analysis and forecasts. I provided the Senator with information for proposed legislative measures through data gathering, research and field work activities and interviews with key personalities in both the public and private sectors. I was tasked to represent the Senator by attending seminars and workshops that involved policy planning and recommendations. Last of all, I had the chance of dealing with the other Senators, through meetings done with them concerning economic assessments and other vital political matters that involved establishing certain legislative and economic resolutions.
