Yep - if it isn't visual it won't be copper. And if its not copper, its very unlikely to be gold-only in this geology. So no visuals will confirm its graphite, some other sort of iron sulfides or very low grade copper sulphides.
I agree that proper sampling and lab assays can take that long but it takes 5 mins to look at the drill core. In base metals if you can't see it in drill core - its not worth mining.
