Road is from Krajan/Pit3 to Batu Tuhup. This upper section of river is smaller and more seasonal thus operates with 800t barges. These unload at Batu - would take a long time and be inefficient to take them all way to Buntok (at least with the small manoeuvrable barges CKA owns for that section). For this upper section, price and availability of fuel, river height and road conditions will all factor as to which route (800t barge/ truck) will be cheapest but will allow a dry river weather route and also important as road transects TBar.
Batu Tuhup to Buntok or even further to Taboneo is still seasonal at extremes but a little less. The bridge at Muara Teweh and river obstacles mean 70ft/4000t barges can probably only be used hence SJ rationale to get as much down river to a stockpile at Buntok where 10000t barges can collect.
