If commodity prices started to faulter and hedge funds got a sniff of weakness, with the current capex requirements, imagine the feeding frenzy! and then the cries of "why didn't management use hedging to protect against the risks?".
If you are so certain of future commodity prices, why invest in shares when you can make so much more money leveraging yourselves up to the eyeballs with all these cheap derivatives. Who knows you can be retired by this time next year.
