Hi Falcon,
You are concerned they are still doing the plant detailed design while the earthworks are progressing? I can tell you from first hand experience that this happens on EVERY large industrial project (except maybe FPSO’s). All of the significant work packages are being executed under lump sump D&C contracts that were awarded many months back. They also have a chunky contingency (approx 20% from the figures in their equity raising presentation). Cost overruns are always a risk on large projects, but you are jumping at shadows at this point.
I must say that I like what I’ve seen of Luke Graham in the presentations. He seems like more of a hands on guy with a deep understanding of how to run a project. It’s a welcome change from the large majority of numpty senior management I’ve come across in my working life.
