The big difference with the GFC was the speed with which they went down and the fact that quite a few of them got swallowed up at very low value by predatory funds, went into administration or they delisted and froze the fund and in some cases unitholders could not get out for nearly 12 mos. They are the scenarios when things really do get bad. I got caught at the bottom after buying back in at 20c with Macquarie Office Trust which was my biggest loss. COF do not appear to be in that danger but rate rises are yet to fully play out and I anticipate it will be a volatile ride for a while.
