What you're saying makes no sense for many reason. If you knew your history of Buddy you'd know hat this backend service for apps was for a while their main goal. Then they realized that the real potential is not apps but connected ANYTHING. so they are not going after something new, it's like stumbling upon something they already have the infastructure built for so why not pick it up? It's easy revenue!
Second, yeah there are free services but obviously some people are willing to pay when they get to a certain volume. Otherwise why would parse have any business? You're suggesting that those developers who pay a signicant amount of money to parse will just go "oh well, I was willing to pay yesterday but today I think I'll move to a free service". Doubtful.
