Good point Cal, makes you wonder though about the CSG boys and their "land banking" activities but don't get me started on that. Prior to my retirement I had some fair experience in the Surat and Walloon type coals. My estimates on U/G costs are only just that. My concern is for roof, floor conditions and degree of lensing and faulting. In that regard these coal measures are generally full of tuffaceous clays which swell and fret when exposed to air. Should these conditions be apparent, and I am not saying they are, then high production longwall may be stifled, hence higher op costs. At this stage no ones currently doing this in the Surat so I'll keep an open mind. I think large opencuttable resources, such a Wandoan, are easier to mine but then the farming and greenie lobby come into play.
