ok. it was never explicitly stated as such, but reading between the lines, there were clearly problems with environmental regulations with the retorting process. hence the move into green energy production to offset some of those emissions. why they didn't just buy carbon credits, I don't know. but I'm sure someone, somewhere crunched the numbers and it didn't add up.
but if what you're saying is that now they're pursuing a liquefaction process, which has little to no emissions, where does the geo-thermal fit into the product mix?
like I said, people in the industry consider two different commodity types to be reason enough to spin an asset off, let alone two completely different businesses entirely.
what's the linkage?
I dont sell ice-cream today and wake up tomorrow and start building helipads for no good reason. and try to maintain my ice cream business while still building helipads. it makes zero sense.
either alpha is dead, and the company just doesn't want to admit it (which would be silly because they could sell it and fund the geothermal angle), or, like I said, they need the geothermal to offset the environmental issues, whatever they are, on the real money maker - alpha.
it doesn't inspire me with confidence that they publicly went from solar to geothermal (for no public reason at all), to acquiring a company that had leases for geothermal production potential, and then from memory, didn't they just abandon all those leases?
the company appears to just be fumbling around in the dark. and missing deadlines to boot.
I'd buy back in after a PFS. sure i might miss out on the single digit entry point again. but I had to wait ten years to get a return on this ticker the first time. I'd be a fool to get stuck doing the same thing again.
