I'm no accountant, but I believe that these losses cannot be claimed if you buy back into the same stock within a certain time frame, which makes sense. Also it doesn't apply to those that are classed as traders, obviously. I do agree that letting the wishful thinking of others shouldn't influence one's decisions. Nor should negativity. I've made the most money by buying when people are crying in the gutter and selling when they post pics of rocket ships and expensive cars.
