VDT was misstep IMHO. Do you see coal mines or iron ore mines bending over backwards to save scrubland? Nah they just say "Look, this is going to make money, and provide jobs, so F that scrubland". Seems to work for them. And given there is another 10 million sq km of the exact same scrub...
