Look, I'm not going to say that some of what you say doesn't ring true, but the whole SW region is a world recognised biodiversity hotspot.

Some areas are far more sensitive than other based on soil types and species present. Your "scrubland" may not be the same scrubland as another. It's not as simple as you make out.
