It matters not what you take from that one link, it doesn't matter what you think the "hippie" groups are doing, hardcore biologists have been studying that area for a very long time (because it is very evolutionary interesting), and it is well established in the scientific literature. I can guarantee you there are biologists at the EPA that are well over the different endangered endemic species in each habitat zone within the overall region.
