I was always surprised IMEC didn't already have the capability for 20nm and below, given they are supposedly the most advanced semiconductor research facility in the world and that funding for IMEC (from EU Governments in particular) is never an issue. The EU want to turn themselves into the 'Advanced Technology Hub' for the world. There is a lot at stake geo-politically in the battle for dominance ........(mainly between US, China and Europe).
I think we are in very good hands with IMEC, and the reality is we have achieved incredible success on a shoestring budget, relative to what the giants of the industry spend on R&D. The benefit to all of us is that our 'shares on issue' is not as high as it could be, and we own 100% of the intellectual property without any mergers or interference from other entities. This makes for a clean exit when the time comes.
