How are they struggling? We don't know.
For any technology supposedly as sophisticated and disruptive as this, coming straight out of a uni, it's naive to think it will happen quickly, no matter what market they are targeting.
No serious industrial partner will commit until it is 100% clear that the technology not only does what they say, but is robust and cost effective. And then it can take 12 months just to sort out a decent commercial agreement! - I know that from experience. I suggest patience, put in bottom drawer for 12 months. IMO!
