There would be suppliers importing wines in barrels in bulk & bottling/labelling locally. Cheaper to transport barrels than heaps of individual bottles packed in cardboard cases.

A standard wine barrel holds 225L / 0.75L bottles = 300 bottles x 400gm average weight empty = 120kg + 34 cardboard boxes whereas a standard wine barrel empty weighs 50kg. Less prone to breakages too.

Vinex marketplace in the UK offers bottling for bulk wines & relabelling as different countries have different labelling requirements. It appears DW8 may be doing similar to attract bulk volume customers. Aldi is a customer of Vinex UK so they may become a future customer of DW8 in Australia.
