Those Turbines are now owned by the EU, so those Magnets are the property of the EU, therefore the rare earths will stay in the EU to be refined and separated to high purity rare earth oxides (Nd, Pr, Dy, Tb, Ho etc).
Yes, I heard about GM and Honda. Well done to them, we have FORD and LCM, Ford's EU production will come from its Halewood facility in the UK, where it plans to produce nearly half a million units annually by 2026 and 600 tonnes per annum (tpa) of magnet raw material is required to support the facility’s production.
The collaboration with LCM and Ford, Ionic Technologies will supply separated NdPr oxide, dysprosium oxide and terbium oxide to LCM, who will convert tometals first, then alloys, prior to magnet manufacture (through a European based subcontractor). Finally, themagnets produced from the recycled REOs will be delivered to Ford’s EV drive train production facility inHalewood, UK, as part of its development of EV production.
Ford will test and analyse the performance of magnets provided through the project, to prove the efficacy ofhigh specification magnets containing rare earth elements (REEs) of recycled origin from Ionic Technologies.
Each stage of the process from magnet recycling to EV testing will generate waste (magnets and swarf),including the magnets used in Ford's EV motors. Ionic Technologies will recycle this material, thus completinga totally circular rare earth supply chain within the UK.
Great (Huge) chance the same deal will happen with FORD, LCM and Ionic Technologies like GM and Honda, you never know FORD could do a deal for its own Commercial Plant to supply REOs for its Halewood Plant Ex-China
