SYR does not sell anything to Tesla at this point. The offtake agreement is for Vidalia, and that plant is not yet operative, with qualifications just having started. Strange question, thus.
I do agree that it will be a long and bumpy road to profitability for SYR, and „Vidalia I“ will be too small to do the trick.
What we need are a recovery of natural graphite prices, Vidalia II, and a stronger focus on natural vs. synthetic, e.g., for ESG arguments (even if used only as a proxy for US/European market protection efforts).
The Chinese are very knee-jerk. They have flooded the market with huge overcapacities in synthetic, slowly killing not only SYR‘s, but also their own graphite businesses. They cannot continue that way, either, or they create a bunch of further Evergrandes. Expect them to at some point revert poor decisions made. The good news is, once they do, they tend to act with lightning speed. See their real estate business or their rail business as more or less recent examples. That‘s how a planned economy works. Beyond our western imagination.
If and when that happens is anybody‘s guess, of course. Which is why I agree that SYR remains a highly speculative investment. For me, worth a bet, though - especially in light of upcoming US elections.
