I read the article. The govt says the water should be able to be used for anything... even mining. Those opposed say 'you cant to that because of *drum roll*... climate change. So the greenies say 'something bad may happen in the future so do not do any development'. To be honest, that is their mantra. Do NO DEVELOPMENT on ANY PROJECT ANYWHERE unless it has a Greta-Stamp-Of-APPROVAL.
I can tell you a funny story. I am aware of the rivers in that part of Aussie needing water. So I tweeted one day that cotton farming was a stupid industry in Oz as it used too much water. Grow cotton where it rains like buggery. Wow. I woke up in the AM with dozens of cotton farmers letting me know 'what for' (on twitter).
Cotton farmers say cotton farming is number one priority for Aussie outback water.
Almond farmers say almond farming is the number one priority for Aussie outback water.
Miners say mining is the number one priority for Aussie outback water.
Cattle rustlers say cattle rustling is the number one priority for Aussie outback water.
etc, etc, etc
I am positive the govt seems to think it is OK for RRL to use the surface water they need.
