Indonesia had unexpected costs probably more than typical which is what makes it look worse than it is. 25% share is pretty typical of small oil companies. Even in Australia the resource rent tax and company tax plus the need to share finds with bigger companies would make returns reduced by the same amount as the production sharing that is in Indonesia. For the Cooper Basin to be more successful than Indonesia they would still have to get lucky with an unexplored area, so would have to team up with Beach to share costs and then pay the Australian government some. To get really rich in Indonesia they would probably have to go offshore and get just as lucky.
What is left in Indonesia is needed to make the money to have a go at these unexplored areas.
