The Australian is reporting that AusSuper was approached by Brookfields last year and was contemplating joining the bid as recently as August.
A lot of the discussion has focused on this being a zero-sum game, ie. if Broofields/EIG takeover, we lose a stock from the ASX and out of Australians' hands.
I can imagine that AusSuper retaining some ownership as part of the final negotiation has a few benefits in terms of retaining local ownership and holding the consortium to account re: transition investment
