You're right that alone is not a big deal and normally
wouldn't be an issue. My frustration with the Visa issue is actually with ISX. They couldn't have handled it worse and should have known that every thing they do and say, or more to the point don't say would be scrutinised.
If you think you're getting railroaded just be extra diligent and don't give ASX anything, even if it is pedantic.
